This will be a challenging hike; with an elevation gain of about +/-2,100 feet. The hike will be a basic loop; about +/-9 miles, with some side trails added on, as interest and conditions permit...
It is definitely not for beginners or novice intermediates, because of the extended distance and elevation and time, possible trail conditions and alternative routes...

*Mount Tom State Reservation encompasses the [Mount Tom Range](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mount_Tom_Range "Mount Tom Range") and is located in the [Connecticut River Valley](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Connecticut_River_Valley "Connecticut River Valley") region of [Massachusetts](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Massachusetts "Massachusetts"), just north of the city of [Springfield](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Springfield,_Massachusetts "Springfield, Massachusetts"). The reservation is noted for its high cliffs, rugged scenery, and biological diversity.* *Mt. Tom, at 1,202 feet (366 m), is a steep, rugged "traprock" mountain peak northwest of Holyoke, Massachusetts. The mountain is composed of basalt, a type of volcanic rock, also known as traprock. The mountain is on the bank of the Connecticut River and is the highest traprock peak of the Metacomet Ridge.*
*The Metacomet-Monadock Trail is a 114 mile long distance hiking trail maintained by the Berkshire Chapter of the Appalachian Mountain Club. This trail starts at the Connecticut border, makes its way across western Massachusetts and ends at the New Hampshire border. This 114 mile trail commonly referred to as the M-M Trail is a section of an even longer trail network, the 215 mile New England Trail, which also includes the Mattabesett (M-M-M), a National Scenic Trail (Like the Appalachian and Pacific Crest Trails) designated as such in 2009. The trail starts at the edge of Long Island Sound on the Connecticut Coastline, in the little town of Guilford to be exact. The trail makes its way through downtown Guilford before hitting the woods and heading north to the Massachusetts/New Hampshire border.*

**RSVP to join, there will be a limit of 12 hikers, based on demand and/or weather conditions, as necessary. Rating: “Very Challenging”, for experienced hikers, +/-9 miles, +/-2,100' elevation gain, approx. 2-2.5 mph, with few stops. You must stay with the group without holding us back. Dogs are allowed on this trail, but please check and obey trail regulations. Take pictures for photo contest.**

***Cancel at least 48 hours prior to event, so the wait list can attend. If on the day of the event, you can't make it, take your name off the going list, and a message would also be appreciated.
