What we’re about
We're temporarily closed to new members at this time!
The group is kept to a manageable size because we cultivate real community. It's difficult to find a place to meet and have a good conversation when we're too large. Members should be interested in meeting in person in West Orange on 4th or 5th Fridays of the month.
Join a journey of discovery, escape, and pleasure - alien planets, swords, sorcery, spaceships, paranormal powers, adventure, multiple realities, monsters, spirits, human becoming, alternative histories and futures, robots, social experiments, time travel, and other cool stuff. Let's enjoy the best of the genre.
The group began in February 2014, and has met every month since that time. Initially we read novels that won both Hugo & Nebula awards. After about 6 months we began alternating reading novels that won both Hugo and Nebula Awards with books picked by members that won either the Hugo or Nebula award. We now also read award winning novellas, Arthur C. Clark winners, Locus award winners, and Hugo award nominees in the summer before the Hugo award has been announced. (For a list of what we've read already please see the google doc at https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/1NhEKzQ6cMDznXN1UfL3jxyPy_w-zWMwQH9-Ss_qTcWw/edit?usp=sharing .) We meet each month, generally on the last Friday in the West Orange/Montclair area. We're a diverse group of interesting, smart, creative folk.
