In this talk, Tane will explore how he and Danger Boat Productions have used improv to foster thoughtful and creative discussions on political, scientific, and social issues through their acclaimed civic improv show, "The Theater of Public Policy." He’ll also introduce Danger Boat’s latest collaboration with the Minnesota Humanities Center, the "Sketches of Minnesota" tour, which brings improv-fueled community conversations to towns across the state. Additionally, Tane will discuss their ground-breaking training and curriculum designed to enhance listening, dialogue, and empathy skills, developed in partnership with the Humphrey School of Public Affairs and as part of his new role as Artist in Residence at the Mayo Clinic Center for Humanities in Medicine.
Bio: His name is Tane. And Danger is his ... last name. Tane grew up in South Florida where he began his improv career and continued when he came to Minnesota to attend Gustavus Adolphus College -- where he earned his BA -- and later a Master of Public Policy at the University of Minnesota's Humphrey School of Public Affairs. He went on to co-found The Theater of Public Policy and Danger Boat Productions to engage with civic affairs, promote dialog, and build community through comedic performance and improv. In addition to his improv work, Tane has recently been the Director of Westminster Town Hall Forum here in Minneapolis and an Artist in Residence at Mia. He's also taught improv at the University of Minnesota and currently is Artist in Residence and improv teacher at the Mayo Clinic.
