Hudson Valley Hikers

** We start hiking at 8:30am. Hike will be at a pretty steady, moderate 2.2 - 2.3mph average pace with several brief stops and lunch break. There's no sweep.

The hike: This is a great hiking area with several nice viewpoints with views of the Hudson River, Breakneck, Schunnemunk, the Catskills, etc. There will be several long uphills and a couple short rock scrambles.

The route:
- Enter the teal colored trail by the kiosk. Go 7/10th mile to yellow.
- Turn left onto yellow. Continue 2 miles over Storm King to blue trail.
- Turn left onto blue. Go down into valley 1.4 miles to white trail.
- Turn left onto white trail (old woods road). Continue to Rt. 218.
- Turn right at 218. Go 75 feet to blue trail.
- Take blue 3.4 miles to white trail, going over North Point.
- Turn left onto white. Go to orange trail by Rt. 9W.
- Take orange trail for ~6/10th mile to yellow.
- Turn RIGHT onto yellow and cross over top of Butter Hill.
- After summit, go 2/10th mile to Blue/Red trail.
- Take Blue/Red about 7/10th mile to yellow.
- Turn left onto yellow and head downhill to teal trail.
- Turn right onto teal and head downhill to parking lot.

**Although we encourage members to stay together as a group, members who move at a more leisurely pace must be able to follow the trails if falling behind. There will be no sweep following the last hiker(s).

Pace: Moderate
Duration: Approx 5.5 hours
Elevation Gain: ~3,100 feet
Difficulty: - We will encounter several steep hills and rocky terrain. Not recommended for people doing their "first-ever" hike. You should have previously hiked similar distances and terrain.

Gear: water, lunch/snacks, etc. Appropriate footwear. Clothing for changing temps.

The hike: Moderate 2.2-2.3mph average pace. Several brief stops at great viewpoints. There's no sweep! We start hiking at 8:30am from the Washburn Trailhead parking lot at the base of Bull Hill. We'll have great views of the Hudson, West Point, Cold Spring, Storm King, etc., and we'll check out the ruins of the Cornish Estate mansion.

The route:
- White trail up and over Bull Hill and then down into valley.
- Left onto blue trail for about 1/3 mile, passing by footbridge on the way.
- Right onto yellow Undercliff Trail to top of ridge.
- Left onto the white Breakneck Trail. Go 250 yards to great viewpoint.
- Double back on white and stay on white across ridge ~1.5 miles.
- Turn right onto Blue Notch Trail. Stay on blue all the way to parking lot, passing the old stone barn and the Cornish ruins along the way.

Gear: Appropriate footwear; microspikes or similar traction; moisture-wicking clothing; water; poles may be helpful; lunch/snacks

We will meet at parking area #2 (see map pin) we will start on the Long Path and hike south, when we get up to North Highland Ave we will take a sharp left, as we are hiking in a counter-clockwise loop heading to the Nyack River trail, which puts us next to the water (Hudson river) bring warm jacket and hat, as wind seems to BLOW here. we will hike along the river past Verdrietege Hook, then slightly climb back up to parking lot.

Views of the Hudson River & Tappan Zee bridge are beautiful and fantastic.

This will be a casual after TG hike, stretch the legs and walk off some of the early week feast.

Know your route and have trail navigation. You should be getting regular cardio and know your limitations.

Faster hikers are not obligated to wait for slower hikers.

Be prepared for windy cold weather.
