Thanksgiving -9th annual Mt. Beacon hike - 4 miles - NYC Train to Beacon

The Hike: This will be the 9th annual HVH Mt. Beacon fire tower hike previously hosted by Chris. P. Chris has relocated out-of-state and we wish him well. Spots are limited by park rules and a waitlist will probably form. Please don't sign up and not show up. Longer hikes after the fire tower are possible for those desiring more miles (going around the reservoir adds another 1.2 miles; looping around Lamb's Hill adds another 3.5 miles, etc.)

The route:

• We start hiking at 8:45 so please arrive earlier.
  - Take the red Casino Trail one mile to site of former casino/hotel for some nice views.
  - Continue on red one mile to white trail.
  - Turn right onto white. Take white several hundred yards to tower.
  - Return back to red
  - Turn left onto red and return to parking lot.

Distance: 4 miles
Pace: casual to moderate.
Duration: approx 2 - 2.5 hours
Difficulty: first mile is all uphill and can be very difficult for some; rocky trails;
Elevation gain: Approx 1,400 feet
Gear: appropriate footwear; sunscreen; water; snacks/lunch; poles may be helpful
Views: All directions
