NOTE: SEE THE CHANGES BELOW REGARDING POT LUCK
Schadenfreude is a German term that refers to the feeling of pleasure or satisfaction one experiences when observing someone else's misfortune or failure. It is a complex emotional reaction that is often viewed negatively because it involves deriving joy from another person’s troubles. The word is a compound of "Schaden," meaning "harm" or "damage," and "Freude," meaning "joy."

This emotion can arise in various situations, such as when a rival encounters a setback or when witnessing a humorous failure like a clumsy fall that doesn’t result in serious injury. Psychologists have explored schadenfreude as a part of human nature, suggesting that it can stem from feelings of envy, competition, or a boost to one’s self-esteem when seeing others falter.

While schadenfreude is common, most people are hesitant to admit to feeling it, as it conflicts with ideals of empathy and kindness. The concept highlights the complexities of human emotions and

The Skeptics Forum of IEAAH/FAR is again hosting a discussion group, modeled on the European Salons of the 18th century. We will engage in respectful, intelligent conversations on various topics to be posted each month. Side conversations are discouraged during group. This is a fun, social platform for deep, elevated talk. WE HAVE NOW MOVED TO THE ARLINGTON LIBRARY COMMUNITY ROOM.

IMPORTANT to note that these now all are POT LUCK. If you have dietary restrictions, bring something you can eat to share. Please bring a VEGETABLE SIDE/MAIN , DESSERT, OR BREAD/ROLLS FOR ABOUT 6 and BRING YOUR OWN DRINK and $5 cash to help offset supplies, rental costs, and waters. WE'LL HAVE A MAIN MEAT ENTREE. TODAY, IT WILL BE HOMEMADE RED WINE POT ROAST.

Let's explore ideas together.

NOTE that if any topic TRIGGERS you (cannot be tolerant) please sit it out.

Please note that this event is introvert friendly, even though the regular attendees are extrovert heavy. It will be moderated kindly, with room and time for everyone's perspectives to be heard and considered. While there is time for socializing during lunch, we ask you to stay on topic during the discussion and avoid side conversations so everyone can hear what everyone else says and contributes.
