**A Lovely Walk for November**

This is an easy, circular walk of about 3 miles. There are no stiles.

We meet in the Car Park at Shawford Railway Station at 1.15pm for a prompt start at 1.30pm. The post code is SO21 2AA.

Turning right out of the car park we do a short amount of pavement walking before crossing the road. We follow the river footpath to Compton Lock and make our way to St Mary's Church in Twyford. We then walk through the village and back to our starting point.

It may be muddy underfoot so wear sensible footwear.

This is a popular walk that we have done in the past, so do sign up for it.

If any walkers want to dine afterwards please organise amongst yourselves.

**GENERAL INFORMATION**
Our walks have been a very popular event, enjoyed for many years, and provide a good opportunity to socialise, meet new people and get out and about in our beautiful countryside or local area. There is usually an opportunity to end the walk with a drink/meal.
To ensure that these walks continue successfully, and in line with our insurance, the Leaders must provide sufficient information regarding the proposed walk to ensure the Walkers have enough detail to decide whether or not it is going to be a suitable walk to undertake, within the bounds of their own general health, fitness and ability. The walks are undertaken at the participant’s own risk.
**The Leaders** are asked to carry out a recent prior recce of the proposed walk with a view to providing the following: details of the walk location, an accurate mileage (hopefully around 4 miles) and the time the walk takes; the terrain underfoot e.g. whether muddy/dry, stony/rocky, presence of tree roots, wide/narrow paths, suitable footwear/walking poles – in addition to any hills/steps/stiles or other.
Leaders please also provide a mobile contact number so that Walkers can notify the Leader if there is a last-minute delay in arriving, or a change of plan.
The Leader is provided with a First Aid kit by InSync, and must nominate a Back Marker who has knowledge of the route. The Back Marker should have a whistle to signal the Leader in case of need. (The whistle will also be provided by InSync to keep, or the Marker can provide their own). A head count is to be taken prior to setting off and again at any rests. During the walk the distance should not be increased unnecessarily.
**The Walkers** are asked to please read the walk information provided as detailed above and to take note. Please notify the leader immediately if you decide to leave the walk part way through. This is a courtesy and alleviates any concerns as to your whereabouts. Walkers should endeavour to keep with the group and guard against lagging behind – if there is a problem, please alert fellow walkers/leaders. Please wear appropriate clothing according to the weather conditions and bring adequate water/snacks.
**Dogs** are generally welcome, but walkers (including guests) should check with the Leader prior to attending to ensure the walk is suitable and to prevent the leader being placed in an awkward situation on the day. Dogs must be kept under close control on a lead at all times and not allowed to interfere with, upset, inconvenience or endanger other walkers. Any excrement produced must be collected in accordance with the Country Code – any guests bringing a dog must also be made aware of this ruling.
