Details

Let´s experience visiting one of the oldest and traditional neighborhoods in Mexico City. Older then México Tenochtitlan, with it's interesting history and colonial buildings.

In this case we will visit the beautiful borough of Iztacalco ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Iztacalco ), now one of the 21 Barrios Mágicos ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrios_M%C3%A1gicos_of_Mexico_City ) in Mexico City. The Jamaica Market (traditional market) and we will visit and eat together in a local Cantina where you pay for drink and the "Botana" food is free.

Iztacalco is one of the 16 delegaciones (boroughs) into which Mexico's Federal District is divided. It is located in the center-east of the district and is the smallest of the city’s boroughs. The area’s history began in 1309 when the island of Iztacalco, in what was Lake Texcoco, was settled in 1309 by the Mexica who would later found Tenochtitlan, according to the Codex Xolotl ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Codex_Xolotl ). The island community would remain small and isolated through the colonial period, but drainage projects in the Valley of Mexico dried up the lake around it.

Let´s explore one of the hidden jewels of Mexico City together!
