A breath-taking circular hike through the picturesque Kent countryside, featuring iconic landmarks such as Hever Castle and Chiddingstone Castle. Enjoy a delightful lunch stop at the historic Penshurst Place, where we can savour local flavours while surrounded by stunning gardens and medieval architecture. This scenic route is a perfect blend of nature, history, and culinary delights.

**Hever Castle** began as a country house, built in the 13th century. From 1462 to 1539, it was the seat of the Boleyn. Anne Boleyn, the second queen consort of King Henry VIII of England, spent her early youth there after her father, Thomas Boleyn, inherited it in 1505. The castle passed to him upon the death of his father, Sir William Boleyn. It later came into the possession of King Henry VIII's fourth wife, Anne of Cleves.
The Grade I listed castle

**Chiddingstone Castle**. The castle was built by the Streatfeild family and served as their seat from the early 16th century until the beginning of the 20th century when the family left the castle. The Streatfeilds sold the castle to Lord Astor in 1938.

**Penshurst Place** is the ancestral home of the Sidney family, and was the birthplace of the great Elizabethan poet, courtier and soldier, Sir Philip Sidney. The original medieval house is one of the most complete surviving examples of 14th-century domestic architecture in England.

💪**Grade:** Easy, 10.5 miles, there is a gradual elevation of around 100 metres throughout the day nothing too steep.

* **🚶🏽‍♀️You need to be able to hike at a regular 2.5 miles per hour.**
* **✅Participants must RSVP, we don't take +1's/guests or cash**
* 🐶**Dogs** **are not welcome on any of our hikes.**
* **💱Event bookings are none transferable.**

**😓Factors outside our control,** such as train strikes, rail engineering works, train timetable changes, heavy rain, flooding, thunderstorms, ice/snow or extreme/dry heat, may force us to **alter** this hike. **If we** have to **reschedule or cancel** this hike a full refund or event transfer will be available upon request.

🙋🏽‍♂️**Meeting point**: London Bridge Station, at 08:30 sharp, next to the lower concourse ticket office, look out for our "Invigorate" sign and Michael's orange cap.

🚫Please ensure you join the right group as there maybe other Meetup hiking groups meeting at the station simultaneously.

👨‍👩‍👧‍👦**Group Saver discount** 1/3rd off the price should be available when buying 3 tickets or more together. You must travel with other group saver ticket holders on both the outward and return journey.

💳**Train Ticket** Please buy either an "Off-Peak Day Return" to **Hever Station.**

🏃🏾**We leave for the train** no later than 08:45 am

**🚆We plan to catch** 09:07 am. "Uckfield" train, a 42 minute journey, arriving at **Hever Station.** at 09:49 am.

🚻**Use the toilet on the train** before we get to **Hever Station.** as we will be heading straight out for our hike once we arrive.

**🕙Morning: 5 miles**

* Pass the lovely Kent village on Penshurst

**🍕Lunch: will be at the** [Porcupine Pantry Cafe Penhurst Place](https://www.penshurstplace.com/explore/eatshop/porcupine-pantry)

**🕜Afternoon: 5.5 miles**

* We shall visit the famous Chiddingstone
* Chiddingstone Village, for 10 minute break
* Chiddingstone Castle (pass but not go in)
* Hever Castle (pass but not go in)

**🚩Finish:** around 4:30 pm at the pub

🍺🍔**Drink/food** (optional) will be at the [King Henry Ⅷ](https://thehenryhever.co.uk) pub in Hever "Food fit for Royalty" (near the castle) and about 10 minutes walk back to Hever Station

**🚆Trains** back to **London** from **Hever Station.** back to London are every hour at 5 minutes past the hour.
