Welcome to the Official Byron Bay Chapter of the Interaction Design Association (IxDA).
We provide a safe space to have discussions but most importantly we organise meetups in the Byron Bay area offering a space and time for connection, discussion and learning.
Whether you're a seasoned design tragic or just starting your journey, we'd love you to join our group and come along to one of our meet ups.
Our chapter offers free membership and relies on the passion and initiative of its community members to thrive so feel free to reach out if your keen to help run the group.

Join us for the IxDA Byron Local Showcase on 20th November 2024 at TAFE NSW Byron Bay CLC, an evening celebrating the incredible talent within our local design community. This year's event will feature four amazing speakers, each sharing their unique projects, skills, and passions. From mastering Figma libraries to redefining company culture, conversation design, and side hustles—there's something for everyone. Get ready to be inspired by the creativity, innovation, and insights from some of our most talented Nor Riviens!
This year's showcase will include two sessions up front, each lasting 20 minutes including a Q&A, followed by a short break, and then another two sessions to round out the evening. Speakers include:
- "Mastering Figma Libraries" with Agata Gray. Agata is a UI-leaning Product Designer, currently part of the Design System Adoption team at Canva. With a Master’s in Architecture and experience in ocean sailing and boat restorations, she combines her unique background with a passion for solving complex design challenges. In this session, Agata will demystify Figma libraries and components, offering practical tips on the differences between UI Kits and Design Systems, when to create a library, what to include, and how to ensure smooth component creation and effective library management.
- "Culture by Design: Redesigning Company Values from the Inside Out" with Bianca Taylor-Andrews and Alex Ormerod from Envirosuite. Bianca and Alex will share their journey where a simple homepage redesign transformed into a company-wide movement to reimagine core values. What began as a small project evolved into a newly defined vision, mission, and values—developed by the people, not just leadership or an external agency. This session is a must-see for anyone curious about how a small, remote design team can break down silos, challenge the status quo, and create meaningful change that ripples far beyond product delivery.
- "Conversation Design and Generative AI" with Ali Pinch. Ali is a Conversation Designer who has worked on multi-million dollar chat and voice projects, helping to strike the balance between creating best-in-class automated experiences and cutting costs for businesses. She’s worked on projects that have helped save contact centres nearly $200 million. In this session, Ali will take a deep dive into Conversation Design 101, how bots have changed with the Generative AI boom, and offer practical tips to get the best out of prompting and workflow automation.
- "The Side Hustle" with Josh Freeman. Josh is a Senior Mobile App Developer, currently leading the development of a new mobile platform at Australian Retirement Trust. Alongside his 9-to-5, he runs Deprogram, a consultancy specializing in MVP and app development. In this session, Josh will dive into mobile app projects he’s launched on the side this year, outside of the 9-5. He’ll share standout features, the toughest challenges faced, and key lessons learned in taking these apps from a client’s initial idea all the way to the app stores.
Its going to be an action packed night with a firm start at 6.00pm and wrapping up by 8pm. Pizza and drinks will be provided to keep everyone energised and to prevent anyone from getting hangry 😀.
