\*Please note, that we will be using Microsoft Teams for the online portion of this meeting. You may want to join a few minutes early to ensure you do not have any issues. If you are attending in person, there are large TVs at the office, and you do not need to bring a laptop or use Teams.

Featured Presentation:

**Packaging Permissions in Stored Procedures**

The basic mechanism when we want to give users access to data or actions in SQL Server in a controlled way through stored procedure is ownership chaining. This is something we use every day as SQL workers, although we may not be aware of it. Every once in a while, we run into situations where it seems that it is not sufficient to put a statement in a stored procedure, but that users need to be granted explicit permissions – something we may not always be comfortable with, because that would permit the users to do things we do not want them to be able to.

There are two additional mechanisms in SQL Server we can employ in these situations: certificate signing and the EXECUTE AS clause. In this session I will start by exploring how ownership chaining works and its limitations. I will then proceed to explore the other two options and I will particularly focus on certificate signing, as this is the preferred method. At first it may seem overly complex, but I will show how it easily can be automated. EXECUTE AS may seem simpler, but I will point out potential problems with it, not the least if you try to use it on server level and consider to set the database as TRUSTWORTHY. This session is directed towards both developers and DBAs, as this session deals with problems you may face in either roles.

In this technical talk, we will explore how to harness the power of Azure AI, Azure AI Studio, Azure Search Services, and large language models to extract valuable decision-making data from the Azure SQL Database.

We will begin by discussing Azure AI and its capabilities. Starting with a clean slate, build a solution using Azure AI Studio and its user-friendly interface that can chat with an SQL database, helping make data-driven decisions without writing code. This solution will delve into Azure Search Services, highlighting how it can be used to efficiently index and query data.

The second part of the presentation will focus on utilizing large language models and Python notebooks to extract and analyze data from the Azure SQL Database. Attendees will learn how to set up their environment, connect to the database, and implement AI-driven solutions (talk to the database).

By the end of the session, participants will have a solid foundation in using Azure AI and Python for data-driven decision-making, empowering them to leverage these tools in their projects.

**Speaker Bio:**
Taiob Ali, Microsoft Data Platform MVP, is an accomplished technical leader with a proven record of success. During his last 17 years, he has worked with the Microsoft Data Platform and MongoDB on-premises and in the cloud. His experience includes all three major business sectors: finance, e-commerce, and healthcare.

Taiob works at "GMO LLC" as a database solutions manager, focusing on cloud migration, automation, and improving and streamlining operational workflow. He regularly speaks at local and international conferences, SQL Saturdays, and Azure conferences. He is a board member of the New England SQL Server User Group, founder of 'Database Professionals Virtual Meetup Group', and organizer of Boston SQL Saturday.

At the beginning of this session, we will do a quick recap of Database Projects and Azure DevOps. Just to make sure that we are all on the same page.

During the session, we will set up an example build and deploy pipeline. Since there are a couple of ways to deploy changes from Azure DevOps to your target database, We will discuss a couple of scenarios and I will show you which method I'm using.

During this session, we will also cover the deployment pipeline differences between SQL Server and AzureSQL.

In the rapidly evolving field of cloud security encryption of data plays a key role in maintaining confidentiality and integrity. This is particularly crucial in scenarios involving sensitive data where the importance of encryption in rest and transit is even greater. As cloud technologies advance, the risk of data breaches is also increasing due to sophisticated threats. In the domain of encryption, the process of generating and managing the encryption keys is crucial. Traditional methods of encryption key generation cannot adapt to the dynamically changing security needs of cloud environments. This limitation poses a risk of vulnerabilities. This talk discussed AI-based approach to generate encryption based on contextual data such as the time of the day, user location, and network security levels. This method not only ensures that each key is uniquely generated to meet the security demands of individual sessions but also significantly reduces the risks associated with key reuse and predictions.
