OUTdoorsy: Jacksonville LGBT Outdoors Adventure Team

We will be exploring the northeastern edge if downtown Jacksonville including Billy Goat Hill, Hogan’s Creek, the old City Cemetery, and a few surprises. Afterwards we will have lunch at Sweet Pete’s on Duval Street at James Weldon Johnson Park.

We will be hiking the Spanish Pond and Timucuan Ravine trails for a total of 4.5+ miles of beautiful Florida nature with up to 137 ft. of elevation gain.

The Theodore Roosevelt Area is a 600-acre natural treasure of hardwood forest, wetlands, and scrub vegetation. It is also rich in cultural history.
Visitors can experience miles of thickly wooded peaceful nature trails, vast grassland that supports both water and land animals, ancient piles of discarded oyster shells which yield clues about an extinct culture, and the legacy of preservation bequeathed to all by this property's last private owner, Willie Browne.

This area is one of the last unspoiled coastal wetlands on the Atlantic Coast that covers a 46,000-acre area and was designated by Congress in 1988 to protect the complex salt marsh/estuarine ecosystem and historic and prehistoric sites between the lower St. Johns and Nassau Rivers. Public lands within the Preserve are administered by the National Park Service, the State of Florida, the City of Jacksonville, and the United States Navy. Discover 6,000 years of human history and experience the beauty of salt marshes, coastal dunes, and hardwood hammocks.

Start your self-care Sunday with beach yoga in Fernandina Beach! You won’t find a more beautiful, serene setting for yoga in these parts, so what are you waiting for? This one-hour practice is suitable for all levels from curious first-timers to experienced, bendy yogis.

Class is held on the beach behind Elizabeth Point Lodge. There’s free public parking at Beach Access 1, and more free parking a few steps away at Beach Access 2.

Amelia Island Beach Yoga is taught by a variety of certified teachers and is a donation-based class. Bring a beach towel and or mat or blanket, plus a drink of water.

After class, if there’s interest, we can grab brunch after class, and/or take a beach walk.

If you don't have any plans for Thanksgiving this year, why not spend it with us? If your kids ditched you, or your friends are going elsewhere, or you are stuck going to a relative's house and don't want to, now you have something else you can choose from. Spend the holiday with us. We decided to throw a pot luck Thanksgiving Dinner. We will eat and drink and laugh and laugh and laugh the night away.

Plan to start around 4pm in case JC has to work that day. By the time everyone gets here and we get settled down, dinner should be between 5 to 6 so truly a dinner celebration. However, if you are bored and want to come early, you are always welcome.

I am limiting the total count as I can only accommodate so many peopleso PLEAE only reserve a spot if you know you are free and will attend. And if your plans change, please update your reservation accordingly so anyone on a waiting list will have a chance to attend. Once we get a final count of people, we can divvy up the menu items to bring and I will send you my address. If you have a favorite dish you want to volunteer for, message me.

We are starting a tradition. First Friday's Out. Start at Birdies @ 6PM. Then, wherever????? We've had a blast on previous occasions and met some great new members to the group. So, get your party pants on and come on out to the first Friday in Dec. Great social for all.

Also, we are taking suggestions for a third Friday Night meetup with the group. We got a few suggestions but if you have any others, send a message. Thanks.
