Hike the GTM Reserve For The NEW YEAR!!!!

Again, I am plagiarizing for the third time....ha ha. Thank you Judy for this info...Let's start the new year off with a great hike!!!

To Start...THIS IS A LONGER HIKE THAN NORMAL. Usually between 7 to 8 miles UNLESS we hit a muddy spot and have to turn around and backtrack which then could be 8 to 9 miles. So, if you are going on this hike, please note we are walking a lot. And to make it more interesting this time, we will be singing tunes along the way, like Snow White (which one of you is going to be Snow??) Left, Left, Left Right Left, and all of those fun classics.

Guana Tolomato Matanzas National Estuarine Research Reserve....GTM Reserve...Hike. Very pleasant walk. Between Jax and St Aug. There is a $3 parking fee on the honor system. The rangers do walk around and check for receipts so please pay the fee. (Exempt if you have a state park pass.) After you enter, park and proceed past the bridge and back parking lot and a little further up is a gazebo where we will meet. If you can park in the back lot, then you are closer to the gazebo but this fills up the fastest. The parking can get a little busy quickly so allow for some time to park and walk to the gazebo. There are restrooms.....hopefully they are functional.

We'll combine purple and red and going to the TIP for a roughly 8 mile walk. If you want a shorter hike, feel free to only do the purple (3 miles) but you will have to break from the group and loop around on your own. It can be a little muddy so wear appropriate attire. You can also look out over the water in the reserve at one point if you want. I can't give you a history like our other great coordinators so if anyone knows of the history, feel free to take that over on the hike!!!

Bring bug spray, water, and possibly a snack or a packed lunch. If everyone wants, we can go to lunch after.
