**HIGHLIGHTS:** This is one of my favorite events of the year. It will introduce you to two of Ohio's most impressive waterfalls and if it is cold enough, one of the most spectacular ice displays you will ever see. 135-acre Cascade Park in downtown Elyria is home to both East and West Falls of the Black River, each one over 30 feet tall and only 1/4 mile apart. West Falls is accessed by an awesome 1-mile loop trail through an area of giant rock formations that takes you to a viewing platform. East Falls will require us to make a short drive to its own viewing area about a mile away. Let's meet in the parking lot by the playground at the end of Cascade St. at 1:00PM. I will be wearing a Meetup sign.

Afterwards, let's head .5 miles over to Foundry Kitchen on Broad St. for an early dinner. It is located in an historic building and is one of my favorite area restaurants. I will make a reservation for 40 at 3:00. Please let me know in the comments if you are interested.

While parked at the restaurant we can take the short 5-minute walk to the platform overlooking East Falls. It is only a block away and we can visit before or after going to the restaurant.

**FINE PRINT:** I want to note that some of the trail to West Falls requires some minor stair climbing and negotiating a few rocks which might be difficult for someone with leg or knee problems. It is nothing for most people to be concerned about, but I need to mention it. We can assist anyone over the difficult parts. Restrooms in the park will be open.

**DIRECTIONS:** The best way to get there from the east is to take the Turnpike and get off at the Rt. 57 exit (Lorain-Elyria). Go .5 miles south to the second traffic light (there will be a Speedway on your left) and turn left onto Rt. 57. Go .3 miles to the first traffic light (by the water tower) and turn right onto Furnace St. Go .4 miles on Furnace St. until you see a Marathon Station on the left. Turn left immediately after the station onto Cascade St. This is the address listed in the description (387 Furnace St.) and is the entrance to the park. Go down this road and park next to the pavilion and playground on the left.

**ABOUT OUR "HIKES":** We are NOT a pure hiking group. Our "hikes" are never intended to be non-stop, cardio workouts. Since sightseeing is our goal you can expect to stop often to experience the surroundings, take pictures and maybe even have a conversation about what we are visiting. We will travel at no MORE than 3MPH (20 minute miles) and never leave anyone behind. If you need to move at a faster, non-stop pace or don't care about your surroundings, this is definitely not an event for you.
