What we’re about

This is a FREE music performance circle lead and taught by me, Joseph Malicke (https://musicaluniversefactory.com), an advanced jazz improviser. The focus of this circle is instrumental performance, using three primary sub-focuses: 1. group improvisation 2. theory and 3. composition. A special note here, songwriters are WELCOME and are included in these categories. All genres are welcome, the only requirement is that an instrument must be played.

We will go around the circle for each member to spend their turn. A turn could be spent performing a composed song (music + lyrics) or a piece of composed music (instrumental), be a free improvisation (either solo or with group members), be a theory question or discussion, or play a recording of an instrumental or song performance.

You will have access to play a Fender Rhodes piano, Hammond organ, and synthesizer, as well as access to boutique pre-amps. Sometimes, I will lead the circle with theory lectures/demonstrations, or by teaching improvisation topics or ideas. For example, there may be 20 minutes of teaching, followed by going around the circle for turns. All members are encouraged to freely improvise. If you have never improvised before, or you are scared beyond words, then put your trust in me and I will get you improvising in front of a group in no time.

This is a great way to grow musically, including your creativity, theory knowledge and performance skills. It is also a great way to possibly meet musicians to form small groups with.
