What we’re about

Aloha mai kakou! This is a group for Hawaiʻi Kanaka Maoli (Hawaiians), Kamaʻaina (Local Hawai`i people), and others with a strong interest in Kanaka and Kama`aina culture to share, explore and preserve our unique cultures. This group will be a place for Hawaiʻi Locals to feel at home and understood. There are many groups on Meetup that offer this for people new to Hawaiʻi but not many for Kama`aina.

In this group we're focusing on learning and practicing traditions and modern practices such as lei making, growing plants for food and lei, and activities such as whale watching. This group is not going to charge a fee. There will be fees to other parties for lei making class for the room and materials and activities such as event fees and meals.

This group is affiliated with a membership community Kama`aina Lahui that will go into depth in more advanced topics such as plant medicine and other crafts, local food and more cultural education and activities. There is a subscription fee for this community for honorariums to topic experts, venues and other expenses.

We practice sharing the Aloha Spirit along with Mālama (caring), Kuleana (responsibility) and other Hawaiian values. We'll explore how to integrate all of this in our modern time so we can build and sustain a good life in our homeland.
