Let's hold several meetings to plan a backpacking trip—the Superior Hiking Trail—for sometime from late September to mid-October 2025.
We'll work through some stages—sprints—to generate a partially complete plan, starting in person and then progressing to online collaboration before turning it over to participants to decide what's next. This is about partially planning the trip, not necessarily taking it together—I might sneak in, but you can't count on me planning it for you—and indeed, it is not a trip I'll lead.
There are many ways to go about planning, e.g. what's at this link, with us using this.
Here's a whimsical overview:
The Great Uncharted Quest
In the mystical realm of imagination, a secret society convenes. Their purpose? To embark on an epic journey—a backpacking odyssey through an enigmatic landscape of the United States.
🌄 The Quest: To discover the hidden gem that awaits them, a place untouched by mundane routines but clear via GPS coordinates.
🗺️ The Map: Five cryptic options lie before them, each promising a unique adventure. One shall stand, and the others fall.
🌐 The Digital Descent: After the first meeting, they wield keyboards to draft itineraries, share trip reports, and build out the deets before reconvening to report on their insights and contributions. The more erudite even, egad, read books.
🗳️ The Plan: Finally, they stand at the crossroads—participants document specifics and attempt to align.
🌠 The Uncharted Future: And so, the partially complete plan emerges—a tapestry of dreams and compass roses. Perhaps they’ll finish the plan and make it happen in ones, twos, or more.
The magic number for optimal collaboration? ≈ seven! Each member contributes individually—and as part of a team—researching, documenting, and presenting findings. It’s teamwork that truly counts! 🌟
This in-person meeting officially begins and ends at the location designated by the Sierra Club and does not include carpooling, transportation, or transit to and from the meeting—each participant is personally responsible for all risks associated with this travel. Account for travel time when planning; we just show together time.
🚫 There are no vaccine, mask, or testing mandates. 😷
🤒 If you’re sick, please do not attend. 🏥
🤧 If you develop symptoms/illness during the meeting, you may be removed for your & others’ safety. 🚑
