Details
This classes are for children aged 11-15.
Students will learn how to play a variety of world rhythms (Samba, Reggae, Funk...) using different percussion instruments (hand drums, stick drums, shakers, bells, etc.) and work together to play as a drumming band.
Students will develop their creativity using a variety of fun and engaging drumming games, and work as a group to compose their own rhythms. Finally, students will have the opportunity to perform at local events.
Community Drumming was founded to spread the benefits of group drumming, such as improved physical, mental and social wellbeing. It has also been shown to benefits child development.
Through rhythmic drumming activities, children will benefit in the following key areas:
- Physical Development: Drumming promotes motor skills and coordination as children actively engage with rhythm and movement. It provides a fun and energetic way for them to develop their gross and fine motor skills.
- Social Development: Group drumming fosters a sense of unity and teamwork. Children will have the opportunity to collaborate, share, and communicate effectively as they create music together. This cooperative experience strengthens social bonds and enhances interpersonal skills.
- Mental Development: The rhythmic patterns involved in drumming stimulate cognitive development, enhancing memory, concentration, and problem-solving skills. The creative expression through drumming also nurtures imagination and emotional intelligence.
Workshops will take place every Thursday 5-6pm at the Hook Centre, 13 Hook Road, Chessington (KT9 1EJ).
