Join me for December book club! We are reading The Flight Attendant by local author Chris Bohjalian. We will meet at Koto in South Burlington. **I talked to Chris' publicist to see how much it would be for him to join us and he said it would be several thousand dollars, so that is not going to happen.**

Cassandra Bowden is no stranger to hungover mornings. She's a binge drinker, her job with the airline making it easy to find adventure, and the occasional blackouts seem to be inevitable. She lives with them, and the accompanying self-loathing. When she awakes in a Dubai hotel room, she tries to piece the previous night back together, already counting the minutes until she has to catch her crew shuttle to the airport. She quietly slides out of bed, careful not to aggravate her already pounding head, and looks at the man she spent the night with. She sees his dark hair. His utter stillness. And blood, a slick, still wet pool on the crisp white sheets. Afraid to call the police—she's a single woman alone in a hotel room far from home—Cassie begins to lie. She lies as she joins the other flight attendants and pilots in the van. She lies on the way to Paris as she works the first class cabin. She lies to the FBI agents in New York who meet her at the gate. Soon it's too late to come clean—or face the truth about what really happened back in Dubai. Could she have killed him? If not, who did?

December Book Club - The Flight Attendant

Come and embrace the shortest evening of the year with hearty food, mulled cider, light and laughter...oh, and of course, a yule log (cake).

WHAT TO EXPECT: When we moved to Vermont, away from our families, we decided we would start a new tradition of celebrating the winter solstice. This is our second attempt of making the longest night special. Our hope is to share a warm, hearty meal (likely beef burgundy or lamb stew), play some music, and exchange books (an Icelandic tradition). And, we will have a bonfire (weather permitting).

This year, we thought we would add a music circle. Here are a few of the songs we came up with (trying to stay in the winter theme): "My Favorite Things," "Jingle Bells," Let It Snow," "Deck the Halls," "Walking in a Winter Wonderland," and "Song for a Winter's Night." Feel free to suggest others.

WHAT TO BRING: A beverage or an appetizer to share, a favorite book to swap, and an instrument if you have one (two spoons count; we have a piano, guitar, pan pipes and a didgeridoo to share). Also, you may want to bring some warm clothes in which to enjoy the bonfire if we have one.

**WHAT:** An online chat about retirement planning and living.

**WHEN:** Bi-monthly, the second Tuesday of odd numbered months. Hopefully, each meeting will have a different topic.

**EXPECTATION:** Share what you are comfortable sharing. I would suggest that we keep our net worth or other significant numbers to ourselves. And, give everyone a chance to participate.
