The Garden of Morning Calm is an arboretum in Gapyeong, Gyeonggi Province; a popular attraction that showcases Korean gardening and artistic concepts, changing with each season. It was founded in 1996, by Han San-kyung of Sahmyook University. Its location was previously a barren stone lot, which had been cleared via slash-and-burn agricultural practices. Han and his wife designed and labored on the garden extensively themselves. At one point, while experiencing financial difficulties, that they sold off their house and lived in a small home on the garden's property. Their vision and dedication has resulted in a seasonal breathtaking respite from city living open to the public.
GoMC has more than 10 separate gardens, a garden restaurant, a couple of cafes, a bakery, a plant store, an herb store and more...with so much to do, let's take our time and have a leisurely day enjoying the beauty of the place. Meeting location will be Cheongnyangni Station at 8am, where we will catch the ITX train to Cheongpyeong Station, where we'll catch a bus to the garden. We should arrive to the garden around 930 or 10 and catch a bus back to Cheonngpyeong Station at 5pm, giving us plenty of time to relish the day. (I'll post more train details closer to departure.)
