What we’re about
The goal of this group is to meet and ride with fellow Westsiders (anyone can join though!). As we know, there aren't allot of Mt. Biking opportunities close to home if you're on the Westside/Southbay. So you're gonna travel to ride, and coordinating with others can be tough.
I am a relatively strong Intermediate rider. I ride a 2021 Trek Fuel EX8. I average 8-12 miles on the daily sort of ride with various terrain. Weekends or longer rides in the 15-20 mile range. I'm comfortable on blue rated trails and do pretty well on most black diamond (maybe walk some). I'm not a strong drop or jump guy, but am building skills. It's fun to go out with different skill levels to either push yourself, or mentor newer riders.
The group will set up a Signal group chat. We will use Signal (links below) to coordinate any impromptu daily/weekend rides. This will keep it casual and not lock folks into group rides on specific dates and times. For example, if you're gonna ride Chesebro on Wednesday, just post, "I'm riding CB on Wednesday at 9am, join if you can!" Those who can, respond and the plan is made all on the group chat. Nice! As the group grows, we can add coordinated/scheduled group activities. Day long outings, picnics in the mountains, organized trips to mountain bike parks. Fun!
When you post your riding plans on Signal, just let other riders know what you're riding and the skill level needed. Most blue trail riders can manage some black with a bit of hike a bike. But strictly green trail/ fire road riders will find that to not be allot of fun until they have built some skills. So just let other riders know what you're doing. You can also post links to articles, interesting mt. bike videos or tips. Whatever. Building a community of mountain bike enthusiasts and casual riders to learn and make new friends.
