There is just no way to explain to you how cool this is......Grace Community Church in Ceres puts on a live performance / re-enactment of the life and times when Jesus was born.

Journey To Bethlehem is an interactive walking tour from the town of Nazareth to Bethlehem. The journey recreates the events that happened on the evening of Christ's birth.

This is about the time when Joseph and Mary (with child) had to travel back to the town where Joseph was born because they had to pay taxes and a census was being taken of every Jewish person.

The couple lived in Nazareth before the birth of Jesus. Joseph and Mary would have had to travel some 80 miles from Nazareth to get to Bethlehem--enduring hard conditions in their estimated 10 miles of travel per day on their way to Bethlehem.

Along the way travelers would often encounter thieves, suspicious characters, swindlers and others...

The journey or re-enactment will be lead by a mapmaker who with lantern will direct the journey. You will be joined by other families who will be traveling with you who are also journeying to their birthplace.

You will encounter shepherds who will tell you a magnificent story about a baby that has been born in Bethlehem and who also met up with three wise men who were also seekng the child.

The journey will include an encounter with Roman soldiers --who order the"Jews" to comply with Roman law.

( When I went we got stopped by a Roman batallion and after hurling insults at us because we were lowly Jewish peasants they proceeded to take a 12 year old boy out of the pack and question him. I was crying....he was crying....you are in this play--you are the play!!!)

The mysterious appearance of an Angel who announces the birth of Christ , and then onto the busy marketplace of Bethlehem that will fill the senses with awe.

The culmination of the trip finds visitors in the Inn where there is no room for your family to sleep....... , and finally to the stable where the Christ Child, Mary and Joseph are resting peacefully in solitude in the stable.

Its phenominal and you travel (yes you are hiking thru the dirt--so wear good shoes and bring a flashlight) lead only by a guy carrying a lantern high up in the air... and dress warm--this is done at night and it is very very very cold...........but so cool to experience it.
