Anything But Scary Clowns Book Club: Book Exchange and The Rivers of London
Details
Join us in December when we finally discuss Rivers of London; Midnight Riot by Ben Aaronovitch.
Stay for our End of the Year White Elephant-style book exchange.
Probationary Constable Peter Grant dreams of being a detective in London’s Metropolitan Police. Too bad his superior plans to assign him to the Case Progression Unit, where the biggest threat he’ll face is a paper cut. But Peter’s prospects change in the aftermath of a puzzling murder, when he gains exclusive information from an eyewitness who happens to be a ghost. Peter’s ability to speak with the lingering dead brings him to the attention of Detective Chief Inspector Thomas Nightingale, who investigates crimes involving magic and other manifestations of the uncanny. Now, as a wave of brutal and bizarre murders engulfs the city, Peter is plunged into a world where gods and goddesses mingle with mortals and a long-dead evil is making a comeback on a rising tide of magic.
Book Exchange Information
After we have selected next month's book, we will celebrate another year of reading fabulous books by doing a book exchange.
1. Bring a wrapped book.
- Can be used or new
- Must be a book you have read and enjoyed
- Can't be a book we have read in Book Club
- Should be the first book in a series
2. All the books go in a pile in the center of the table
3. We will all draw a number
3. Whoever draws the 1 will choose a book and unwrap it
4. The person who drew a 2 can either steal the book from the 1st person or unwrap another.
5. The person who drew a 3 can either steal an unwrapped book or draw another.
6. This keeps going until everyone has either stolen or chosen an unwrapped book.
7. After everyone has gone the person who drew first can then choose to steal anyone's book unless it has met the max criteria or keep their book. After that round is completed the book exchange is over.
8. There are no steal backs
9. A book can only be stolen 3 X
10. If the book you unwrapped is stolen, you can steal a different book or choose to unwrap a book that is still wrapped.
11. You do not have to participate in the book exchange to attend book club, simply do not bring a book if you don't want to participate.
