Ok, this will be an awesome paddle!! However, I am not going to sugarcoat it, as it's long and strenuous, but the effort should be rewarding... 10.5 miles each way.. I am not scared, and I hope that you're not either.. :) This paddle is going to be a joint adventure with another friend's meetup group... It goes a lil something like this:

We launch at Flamingo and paddle westward, until we get to the end of the state... There is a long beach that goes on for miles as we turn north, where we will camp out for 1 night... As this is primitive camping, you must bring everything that you'll need.. No electricity, cell service, water nor bathrooms.. There is only a beach that goes on for miles.. You can see thousands of stars at night... and if we're lucky, we can see a lot of wildlife during the paddle.. Due to the length of this trip from Flamingo and back, I recommend that you bring a kayak that is at least 14 ft long, to make for more efficient paddling...

WHAT TO BRING:

Kayak, or one can use a canoe, as it has been done

Life vest, 1 each per paddler

Whistle

Headlamp / Flashlight / extra batteries

Waterproof bags for gear and clothes

Bow and stern lines / ropes to secure the crafts (I should have enough to secure all of the vessels together)

Small tent

Sleeping bag, as it will get cold while sleeping on the beach

Sleeping pad

Water (one gallon per person a day)

Food (i.e sandwiches, nuts, fruits, etc..)

Insect repellent

Sunscreen

Trash bags

First aid kit

Toilet paper / toiletries

As with any paddle down in Florida Bay, the winds can be a pain in the arse, at any given direction.. Usually, they come out of the east, so the paddle over will be easier, not so much on the way back.. But slow and steady will be the name of the game on the return trip, as we'll break camp early to try to beat the increasing winds, as it gets later in the day.. We can also stop, rest and eat at clubhouse beach, and/or east clubhouse beach... Lastly, I will have my vhf radio, just in case we have to call for assistance, so don't you worry!!
