A Sunday morning ride from Merrick to Bellmore and Wantagh
Three interesting places right here and rich in Americana
First Merrick and the
Methodist campground retreat established 1869 into the 1920's. It's also locally known as Tiny Town because of the small size of the cottages and small streets that encircle the camp, one inside of each other.
The campgrounds attracted anywhere from 300 to 10,000 people. They would park their wagons inside the circles and live out of them. Eventually, some of the parishioners built small cottages instead of living out of the wagons. There was also a chapel and a minister's house built, which are local residences today.

Bellmore
The former site of the US Army Bellmore Logistics Activity Center \| military\, Cold War 1947\-1993 Decommissioned in 1997
It was a repair and service facility for heavy equipment supporting the Nike missile batteries which were at 6 sites on Long Island to protect NYC , Many a long time resident attests to wayward heavy hauler making a wrong turn down a residential street with Missile under tarp.

Wantagh
A moving experience a walking tours of the Pet Memorial Park . We'll each get a map and brochure and tour the Park. We will explore the grave sites of many beloved pets who call Bideawee their final resting place, including Sarge, a Belgian Shepherd and army hero of the WWII Canine Corps; Checkers, the Cocker Spaniel credited with saving Richard Nixon’s political career in 1952; a giant 125-pound tortoise; a duck; a capuchin monkey; petit horses; and more. NYPD and Fire Service heroes too . Moving here as the families stories are ever telling in the beautiful tributes to our greatest little friends .

Ride is 12 miles , mostly flat
Meet at Starbucks and park on Merrick ave or side streets .

10 AM / kickstands up 10:15 ...
Lunch stop at a friendly Pizza Place .
Make sure bike is good to go before hand . Helmets Mandatory , no kids

Be mindful of your spot . There will be a wait list . Remove yourself if not attending / dress for Autumn temps
