Difficulty: Moderate: about 6 miles with about 850 feet elevation gain.

Hikes are always subject to date/time change or cancellation due to weather, trail conditions or closures, or other unforeseen circumstances.

HIKE DESCRIPTION: The trails at Rabbit Mountain wind through grassy mountainsides and provide incredible views of the Great Plains and the Rocky Mountains. There is a variety of wildlife that roam Rabbit Mountain Open Space including rabbits, deer, hawks, owls and even golden eagles. We will do the following hike in alltrails: https://www.alltrails.com/trail/us/colorado/little-thompson-overlook-trail-and-eagle-wind-trail-loop

DOGS ALLOWED IF FOLLOW PARK RULES: Allowed on a leash. Please be sure your dog is well behaved and can handle the length of the walk. Dog owners must clean up pet excrement and pet waste must be disposed of in garbage can.

ADDRESS/DIRECTIONS: We will meet at the Rabbit Mountain Open Space trailhead. The address is 15140 N. 55th St., Longmont CO 80503. To get there, you can click on the alltrails link above and click directions. Or if you use Google maps, you can type in ā€œRon Stewart Preserve at Rabbit Mountain Open Spaceā€ for directions. If you use Apple Maps, you can type in ā€œLittle Thompson Overlook Trailā€ for directions.

We wait 5 minutes for late arrivalsā€¦but no longer as that is inconsiderate to those arriving timely. So please allow extra time to get to the trailhead.

NO SHOWS: If you are a no-show to 2 hikes, you will be booted from this meetup group. So please change your RSVP to ā€œnot goingā€ if you are unable to make it.

WHAT YOU SHOULD BRING: Water, snacks, layers of clothing, good hiking shoes/boots, sunscreen, sunglasses, hat, gloves, hiking poles (if you find them helpful), and anything else you deem essential. PLEASE ALSO BRING MICROSPIKES IN CASE WE NEED THEM!
