*Beyond America: the influence of the US election on Europe, the Middle East, Russia and elsewhere.*

Last week's re-election of Donald Trump as president of the United States was seismic and surprising. It may prove the most pivotal election in recent American history.

In this salon at the Frontline Club, *New Lines* editors are joined by a panel of experienced journalists for an in-depth conversation about what a second Trump presidency means for America and for the world.

We'll discuss the political divide in the United States, especially the role of conspiracy theories in the election campaign. What the next four years might mean for women's rights; the globalisation of America's culture wars; and the rise of the far-right from America's streets to Europe's cities.

We'll also discuss what might happen beyond America's shores: for America's foreign policy; the conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon and Ukraine; an evolving relationship with Afghanistan; and a changing relationship between the superpower and China and Russia.
Joining us will be Gabriel Gatehouse, Emma Graham-Harrison and Sasha Polakow-Suransky.

Gabriel Gatehouse is a journalist and broadcaster, who has reported from conflicts from Ukraine to Syria and Iraq. His new book, *The Coming Storm: A Journey into the Heart of the Conspiracy Machine* is an exploration of how conspiracy theories are tearing America apart.

Emma Graham-Harrison is the *Guardian*'s senior international affairs correspondent. She was previously based in Kabul, Beijing and Madrid, and has reported from across Asia, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and the Americas.

Sasha Polakow-Suransky is deputy editor at *Foreign Policy*, and previously worked as an op-ed editor at the *New York Times* and a senior editor at *Foreign Affairs*. He is the author, most recently, of *Go Back to Where You Came From: The Backlash Against Immigration and the Fate of Western Democracy*.

**Doors will open at 6.30pm and the event will start at 7pm.**
