Hike: Lantau Island Trail (Sections 5-6)

Difficulty Level: 2.5 out of 5

Distance: 10.6 km (approximate)

Time: 4+ hours (approximate)

Description:
Explore a stunning 10.6-km point-to-point trail near Lantau! This moderately challenging hike takes about 4 hours and offers breathtaking views. Enjoy the beauty of nature and find your solitude any time of year. Don’t miss out!

-Section 5: Keung Shan to Ling Wui Shan
Lantau Trail Section 5 is a moderately challenging route, boasting spectacular views along the way. Starting at the Keung Shan Picnic site off Sham Wat Road, we’ll ascend stone steps that lead us uphill before flattening just below the summit of Kwun Yam Shan. A quick detour to the summit offers breathtaking 360-degree views, though expect some bushwhacking due to overgrowth. As we continue, the trail becomes more exposed, with shaded sections perfect for resting and hydrating, especially on hot days. The terrain is mostly packed clay and rocky, so watch for slippery spots. We’ll climb Keung Shan and Ling Wui Shan, taking in the stunning vistas before our descent toward Man Cheung Po.

-Section 6: From Lung Tsai Ng to Tai O
Continuing from Lung Tsai Ng, the trail begins to relax as we follow signs to Tai O. This section is mostly downhill, though the final part can be steep and slippery when wet. Despite this, it’s a shaded and enjoyable hike.
As we approach the end of Section 6, we’ll arrive at a playground in Nam Chung Tsuen, just a quick 10-minute walk from the bus terminal heading back to the city. Overall, this hike offers amazing views with a challenging start that gradually becomes more relaxed as we near the finish.
