Distance: 60 km

Time: 6 hours

**Please Read Carefully as this Event is Not Suitable for Beginners**

Description: This event is for anyone that has experience cycling (not suitable for beginners), is able to maintain a brisk-like pace and stay together with a group, and is flexible and easy going as there will be bumps along the way as we navigate from one location to the next. Again, I can't stress this enough, this is not suitable for beginners.

Now that you've made it past the initial section: Not Suitable for Beginners, here's what you can expect. This New Year's Cycling Event from Tai Wai MTR to Tuen Mun MTR is for individuals that enjoy cycling and all the twists and turns that come when navigating a new cycling pathway, opened in September of 2020. That's right, this pathway is new and it's part of the cycling track network connecting East to West in the New Territories (for more info click here). Here's what I can tell you about the pathway: It's all paved and mostly safe; however, it's not a long and continuous pathway. We'll need to be ready to stop along the way, use the cross walks (with traffic lights) whenever possible and safely get ourselves from one side to the other.

The plan is to cycle from Tai Wai > Tai Po > Sheung Shui > Yuen Long > Tuen Mun. The one-way pathway is approximately 60 km. In the event you are unable to complete the full course, you have some options to return your bike along the way. There are stops at: Sha Tin,University, Tai Po, Sheung Shui, Yuen Long and Tuen Mun. Or, if you can opt for a Go-Go Van to transport you and your bike to the drop-off facility. The costs, of course, are your responsibility.

Important: It is your responsibility to select a bike that is a "right fit" for you and it is your responsibility to decide if you will be wearing a bike helmet.

Some highlights: This pathway will take us through Tai Wai > Tai Po > Sheung Shui > Yuen Long > Tuen Mun. Prepare to ride along rivers, around lakes, cross bridges, meander through various neighborhoods, and see parts of Hong Kong you've never seen before.

What to bring:

  • 2 liters of water (water available for sale along the way)
  • Snacks to eat along the way (sandwich, fruits, nuts, etc)
  • Comfortable shoes
  • Sunglasses
  • Headgear (cap/hat)
  • Sunscreen
  • Bug Spray
  • In case of Rain: plan accordingly

Toilets: There are plenty of toilets along the way.

Stores: There are several cafes and convenience stores along the way.

Meeting Point: Tai Wai MTR Station - Exit A

Time: 10:00 am (SHARP)

IMPORTANT: Out of respect to the members that arrive on time, we will only be able to wait a maximum of 5 minutes. Should you arrive after 10:05 am, I will no longer be answering phone calls or responding to messages as I need to give me time and attention to those that have arrived on time.
