Let’s Hike Morning Glory - West Cuesta Ridge Loop
Details
This 8-mile loop features not one but two ~1000' elevation gain climbs. Much of the hike is unshaded.
Starting on TV Tower Road we'll make our first ~1000' climb to the grove of rare Sargent Spruce trees at Cuesta Ridge Botanical Area, then turn left and plunge down rocky Morning Glory Trail all the while enjoying the spectacular views that extend across the San Luis Obispo morro chain (from Islay Hill to Morro Rock) including Irish Hills, Montana de Oro, Los Osos, and Baywood Park.
We'll bottom out at Shooter's Trail, take a snack break, then start our second ~1000' climb back to TV Tower Road and then to the parking lot.
Getting there: From Highway 101 in SLO, head north up the Cuesta Grade and look for the left turn lane just before reaching the summit (about 4.7 miles after the SLO Monterey Street on ramp). Cross Highway 101 south and you'll see the parking lot straight ahead.
Be sure to bring water, layers, sunglasses, sunscreen, a hat, and snacks.
