What we’re about

Why meditate? On one level, meditation is a tool. It can help combat stress, foster physical health, make us feel happier and more peaceful, as well as being more present and compassionate. On a deeper level, meditation is a doorway into knowing who we really are. Today, we devote much energy to fulfill goals and happiness in the material world and often forgetting the importance of our inner world. What happens if we change the focus a little?

Who are we? Jönköping Lotus Meditation Group is a local community of meditators under the guidance of Gyalwai Nyugu Rinpoche, a remarkable teacher in the Nyingma school of Tibetan Buddhism. Since he lives in Tibet and doesn't speak english we are very fortunate to have our instructor Venerable Pieter Johnston who is also known as Lama Lakshyong, a tibetan buddhist monk who lives in Nepal but originally comes from South Africa. He has been practicing Dzogchen Meditation since 2006 under the guidance of Gyalwai Nyugu Rinpoche. He comes to Europe twice a year to teach meditation and also have classes on zoom.

What do we do?
• We have regular meetups for guided meditation at Folkuniversitetet in Jönköping once every other week on Sunday mornings, 2 hours each time. Ulrika* leads the regular meetups. Everyone is welcome!

*Ulrika did her first meditation retreat in 2003 in Lumbini (Nepal). Since then she has practiced meditation and completed several retreats. In 2015 Ulrika met the tibetan buddhist meditation master Gyalwai Nyugu Rinpoche and started to practice Dzogchen Meditation. Gyalwai Nyugu Rinpoche suggested to Ulrika to start and lead a local meditation group with the guidance of the buddhist monk Venerable Pieter Johnston.

• We arrange special meetups for teachings and retreats with our instructor Venerable Pieter Johnston who is also known as Lama Lakshyong, when he comes to Europe twice a year to teach meditation.

• To find out more about Lama Lakshyong (Venerable Pieter), please visit his website to find out more about him, the lineage he teaches in, find teachings, online meditation and more: https://ah-lama.com

Who can join? The group aims to make the practice of meditation accessible to people of all backgrounds, buddhists and non-buddhists alike. If you are interested in experiencing deeper presence, awareness and compassion through a meditation approach, you are most welcome to join the community! You will find guidance and instructions with us crafted to meet the needs of the individual from first-time meditators to those with many years of practice.
