What we’re about

Louisville Men's Backpacking is a men’s outdoor recreation group dedicated to building a social community of backpackers in the Louisville and Southern Indiana area. Our group activities include organized backpacking and camping trips and events throughout the year. Trips typically range from 1 to 4 nights, involve a group of between 4 and 8 guys, and vary in skill level from beginner to expert. Some typical destinations for our overnighters include Big South Fork, Red River Gorge, Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Nantahala National Forest (NC), Hoosier National Forest, Garden of the Gods (IL), and Mammoth Cave National Park.

We also put together day hikes on trails at locations such as the Parklands, Jefferson Memorial Forest, Clifty Falls, the Adventure Hiking Trail at Harrison-Crawford State Forest, and other areas around Kentucky and Indiana. For those interested, we also have happy hours from time to time in the Louisville area.

Membership in the Louisville Men's Backpacking Meetup is free and available to men 21 and up. Members are responsible for supplying their own equipment and provisions, but there is no fee to RSVP or attend any trip or event. However we do ask that members first attend a day hike or happy hour before joining us for an overnight trip so that we all have a chance to get to know each other a little better before hitting the trail.

Some of our members are guys who found our group because they don’t have friends or family interested in backpacking, camping, or hiking. Other members joined because they’re interested in trading tips and notes with fellow backpackers on the best backpacking spots and gear. Still others are interested in staying in shape and the other fitness benefits that come from outdoor recreation. Whatever the reason for joining, we always look forward to hitting the trail with new members, so feel free to join us!
