Limited number of teams.

1. Each team that is invited to join will receive an application from the chapter leader.
2. That application is to be filled out and returned to the chapter leader who will then return it to the Murrieta Library.
3. The applicant will be called by the library for an interview and at that time they will give them the paperwork and make an appointment for their live scan.
4. Once the live scan is processed and the library has the results, they will let the chapter leader know if you are cleared for the R.E.A.D. program.
5. On the new read teams first visit they will sign a hold harmless agreement.

Come join us in helping a child find the love of reading through Dog Tales at the Murrieta Library,

We have all seen the picture of a child cuddled up with a dog reading a book. That is how it is with our Dog Tales reading group.

Our therapy animals are there to help every child enjoy reading. Their smile and confidence grow while they enjoy the spark, the magic, that comes with a reading to a dog, their best friend.

All reading teams at the Murrieta library are Reading Educational Assist Dogs, R.E.A.D. Teams.

Your dog must be kid friendly, love to cuddle, or be laid on by a child, and remain on their blanket. Each dog must be okay to let a child examine all parts of their body.

The readers are in the age group of 3 to 10 years old. Any child 1 to 92 is welcomed to read.

Each team needs to bring a blanket for their therapy animal to lay on. Some assorted books for all ages. Children may bring their own books or select one from the library.

Dogs are allowed to wear a R.E.A.D. bandanna.

You will need to arrive 15 minutes ahead of schedule to do a meet and greet not only with the other teams but with the children who are waiting to read. Please be prepared to extend your visit 15 minutes so the last child/children have an opportunity to read to your dog.

Please have your LOAL ID and R.E.A.D. ID, and pet’s current rabies vaccine record with you in case staff or management need to see them.

If this is your first visit to the facility or if you have renewed or updated your animal’s vaccines, you will need to bring a hardcopy with you to give the management.

Teams in Training are not allowed. To be invited to this program you must have come to one of the libraries where we do our read program and visually see how it is done. You also must have R.E.A.D. experience with your dog.

If you feel this is something you and your therapy pet may be interested in, please feel free to come by without your pet to see if it would be a good fit.

Please contact the chapter leader to let her know what day and when you are coming by for a visit. She can give you the information then if you wish to make your dog part of the Dog Tales team.
