What we’re about
Philosophy has lost its way. In English, “philosophy” means love of wisdom, and “wisdom” means knowing how to live (because what good is wisdom if you don’t know how to live?) But is this what people who study ‘philosophy’ actually do anymore? – study how to live?
Perhaps it’s because philosophy has been hijacked by academics whose incentives are to publish ever more refined texts regardless of how useful/useless they might be to the rest of us. Or perhaps it was a mistake to call ‘philosophy’ by any name other than a native one – otherwise it is inevitable for a foreign name to obscure and detract from love of wisdom’s practical nature. Probably, it’s a combination of these two factors and some others too.
Through this group we are taking philosophy back for all of us who love wisdom. Maybe we will even create a clever native name for it… or maybe not – “philosophy” is useful internationally. It doesn’t matter. What does matter is that we build a vibrant community for us, “Lovers of Wisdom”, in which we can learn, socialize, and support one another. Sometimes we might even study some academic philosophy, but no matter what, we will always keep it real.
About Our Events
Our events will be a mix of in-person and online events, with a variety of types and formats.
Some will be social gatherings over food and drink, where we can casually meet other interesting philosophers to speak and collaborate (in person… and online?)
Some will be heated group debates to explore many perspectives on one main topic (usually online).
We will also host a book club to explore various texts as a group that one might not read on their own (online).
As the Organizer of the group, i will maintain my own one-on-one Citizen Office Hours for deep discussions of civic importance (online). And i encourage you to do the same.
And maybe, if we succeed in building a vibrant community, we will have more events organized by other leaders! ;-)
About Our Logo
The sunflower is full of meaning.
It looks like the sun, from which all life on this planet takes its energy.
It is a flower, an instrument of reproduction of life.
It is beautiful, a value that drives much of our existence.
It is food, with rich and nourishing seeds for sustenance of life.
And it boldly exists, whether you like it or not, just like we do, whether you like existence or not.
The sunflower might not be the best logo for a philosophy group, but it definitely can be a logo for a philosophy group, and that’s good enough, and there is a lot of wisdom in that.

About Citizen Office Hours:
If the Citizen is to be the highest authority in democracy, should we not have office hours to make ourselves available and accountable to our fellow citizens? The answer is YES – yes, we should. Also, in a democracy, there is no power without responsibility. If the citizens do not accept the responsibility of being citizens, then we do not really have any power – the power we might think we have is illusory. Therefore, all responsible citizens should make themselves available at their own "Citizen Office Hours".
This event is a publication of my Citizen Office Hours. I am making myself available to discuss any of my or your ideas published in Egora. Please be already registered for Egora before our meeting and at least somewhat familiar with my Ideological Profile so we can have a proper and thorough discussion. If you share your Ideological Profile in the comments in advance, i will take some time to study it before our meeting (ideally, the audience will do so too).
