What we’re about
There can be lots of ideas for a book club. However, perhaps the best ones are those that are organically formed by those who participate.
In short, the vision is to have a book club for people (like the organizer) that like to read, learn, keep oneself up to date with the world, and enjoy discussing books in a friendly setting. The discussions are held in English by default, unless all attendees prefer to speak Swedish. We usually decide on what to read next during the discussion of the book we have just read, and anyone attending is free to contribute with well motivated suggestions. We try to maintain a good mix of non-fiction with fiction, value secularism (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Secularism) in lieu of fundamentalism (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fundamentalism), and strive for reading things that has the potential to make us better in the here and now.
We think it's a plus if the books chosen are available as audiobooks, as that enables more settings in which we can work towards getting through them.
Usually we meet at a calm café or similar - where discussions can be held effortlessly -, in either Lund of Malmö.
To keep the group's size manageable (<50 members), inactive members will be successively removed. This enables the taking on of new interested people that aim for more active participation. Inactivity is defined here as not having shown up to the most recent meetups and/or not being signed up for the coming one.
