What we’re about
Welcome to "Yet Another Hiking Group in Luxembourg"!
Please read all of the below carefully before you apply to become a group member, and please read it again in case you will be refused or don't get a reply!
What is YAHGIL about?
This group is about hiking in Luxembourg.
Most times REALLY in Luxembourg, but sometimes in the surrounding countries, like Belgium, France or Germany.
Most times it is ONLY about hiking, but sometimes it may include picnics, swimming, or barbecue.
Most times it will not rain, we promise! And if it does, we apologize in advance, but we will hike anyway :)
Most times it will be brisk walks between 15 and 20km, but sometimes it can be just a light promenade. In winter it might be sometimes too cold for more than 10km.
Who can apply?
Everyone passionate about hiking is welcome.
If you are not trained at all, you might consider not joining the hard ones first, but once in a while there will be hikes suitable for beginners, just read the description for each event carefully.
Like other Outdoor Activity groups, we want real people only, we intend to keep fakes and spammers out.
A rule about a "clearly recognizable profile photo" is existing here as well, for this reason.
If there is any reason for not having such a photo, let's talk about it. Send us a message if your application was rejected or not answered, and make sure that we can reply, check your mailbox settings.
Who are we?
The group owners are hiking in Luxembourg and the greater region since early 2019. We're organizing hikes for almost the same period, on a regular basis, unless we have other private activities. There will be a hike at least once per month, sometimes weekly, as time permits.
Especially if we know you already for a while, if you're reliable and interested in organizing hikes as well, we can talk about it and you may become an organizer in the group
What are we looking for?
We look for beautiful routes, new ones to explore, and the best ones to be repeated occasionally.
And we're looking for nice people to join us, good discussions during the hikes, but also enjoying the silence and the sound of nature.
If you happen to know about a beautiful route, we're always open for suggestions, but be aware that we cannot consider every idea and we cannot promise if and when we go somewhere.
What do we expect from you?
Be gentle with the new group owners. Organizing hikes is what we are used to, managing a MeetUp group not yet.
And be gentle to each other, be polite, we don't tolerate any harassment.
During Covid-19 it is still a challenge, we don't encourage car-pooling with too many and unknown people in a car, but if you get to know each other, or if you're comfortable with mask-wearing in the car, if you're vaccinated or got through Covid already, you might find passengers or people who offer a ride.
Besides that, we always suggest public transport options, if possible.
Final remarks?
There are comprehensive charters existing in other groups, we try to get around it without that, although most of the listed points absolutely make sense and they are valid here as well without the need to state it. Our group, our rules.
The necessary legal minimum to claim: All Events are at your own risk, there is no liability by the hosts for any damage. Also, each participant is responsible for respecting the sanitary measures that might be in place in the particular moment, like distance and mask-wearing.
If you made it here, congratulations!
Welcome to YAGHIL, we're looking forward to hiking with you!

This is not a hike but an adventure! ✈️
I have found a nice hidden green area at one side of the Luxembourg Airport so why don't we go to check it out this weekend when the weather is still enjoyable.
I have planned a 35km version of this all the way from Wecker but guess what good old CFL decided to shutdown the train line at the weekend again so we going to keep that for a spring day and go with a shorter 19km overall version from Canach.
The trail: https://www.alltrails.com/explore/map/aeroport-hike-variation-1-639d79c?u=m&sh=4kcjgp
I chose Canach because there is a direct bus line going there from Gare Central (bus 421 Gare Rocade side), no need to switch, no need to bother with the train.
On this hike we will go through 3 different forest areas and our mystery 👽 landing site next to the airport.
- Birkewsierbesch
- Kazebesch
- Schetterhaard
- Aeroport
Once we reach the final area, we will do a loop there counter clock wise and go back to Sandweiler to finish the hike.
We are not going into the airport because there are no trails only car road/highway up at the northern corner of this but in case you feel like want to catch a flight afterwards there is always bus from Sandweiler ;)
Distance wise 19km with insignificant elevation (100m up max) so the hike is easily doable in 3 hours but as I said expect some adventure on this one: no access zones, bushwhacks, crossing car roads, razer wire fences, airport security guards, black hawk helicopters and whatnot so everybody is coming for their own responsibility 😎.
As the weather demands it I will also bring some Gluhwein🍷 and Xmas cookies 🍪 for the end.
Please have breakfast before the hike, no lunch break is planned, we going to have picnic at the end next to the airport somewhere.
What to bring:
- Hiking boots
- Hiking poles
- Dress warm as it will be 4C during the day
- Food and drinks
- Gluhwein, jegermaister and other wintry spirits only for the very end for warming up ;)
- Gloves
Meeting point: CANACH, Weber bus stop (from LUX direction)
Meeting time: 10:45
How to get there:
A) Take bus 421 from Gare Rocade (PLAT3) leaving at 10:12 -> arrives at 10:40
B) If you want to come with car the best is to park somewhere in Sandweiler as we end the hike there and get on the same bus (eg: 421 passes by Sandweiler Kiirch at 10:27)This bus runs by the hour, if you miss the bus you miss the hike we will not wait for you.
How to get back:
From Sandweiler there are regular buses back to Luxembourg 411/361/421/455
- 🎄 Xmas hike Hesperange 🎄Rue Holleschberg, 5812 Alzingen Hesperange, Hesperange
🔮 Wanterflair 🔮
1–15 December, Communal Park Hesperange
A family-friendly Christmas market with activities for everyone – whether you're attending with family, friends, or even your furry companions. The market opens on 1 December at 3pm and runs through to 15 December, with weekend openings starting at 3pm each day. Enjoy a mix of food stalls, entertainment, and festive crafts, making it a perfect spot for a cozy winter outing.
Since it's my own home town I announce this Christmas hike in advance!
We not going for the opening day, but the Saturday after, Dec 7.
We going to do the same trail as on the summer, 15km, mostly flat then arriving back to Hesperange's city center and visit the Christmas market.
The trail:
https://www.alltrails.com/explore/trail/luxembourg/luxembourg/hesperange-hammMeeting time : 11 AM
Meeting spot : AM Keller bus stop (from LUX direction)
Am Keller is the main junction point where most of the buses stop, just take any bus to be there in time. The hike itself is doable in 3 hours tops even with a slow pace so we should be back to Hesper by 14:00.
What to bring is the usual, hiking sticks are not really needed for this one, let's hope for some snow ❄️☃️.
This is gonna be my last hike for the year so regardless of the weather or how many comes the hike will be kept.
Lunch break is not planned we will try the food in the market.
See you in December.
