Aging in Place (Or Not) - Caregiver discussion and senior housing planning
Details
Updating your home for fall prevention? Downsizing? Having to care for a parent or spouse at home? Thinking about independent, 55+, or assisted living? We're at the age where some of us have our own problems, or the care needs of our loved one are weighing on us. Paying for it all, including home health aides, doesn't come cheap, either. The purpose of this meetup is to let women who face these challenges (or are in the planning stages) meet others going through the same experience.
If you are caregiving, and need to bring your loved one with you, please do so, for this get-together. Please tell us you're bringing a guest.
Possible discussion topics include: resources from Dane county, getting home health aides or palliative care, quantity and quality of independent living, 55+, or assisted living communitiies, suggestions for fall prevention, in-home technology when caring for those with dementia, caregiving while living downtown, Medicaid planning issues, etc. Attendees will steer the discussion topics.
Your host, Cheryl, has some background in this area, both having cared for parents for 8 years, as well as having been a nursing home ombudsman, and condo president of a large retirement community with average age of 77 (with frail members and some senior services). Many of our meetup members also have social service and caregiving and healthcare experience. She's curious if this subject is of interest to the group.
