New Year’s Day Polar Bear Plunge and Bonfire
Details
Ring in the new year in style! Push yourself to try something new, relive a previous polar bear plunge memory or just check out the craziness!
We are tagging onto a Borough of Pottstown Parks and Rec event - Look for the Magic Hour flag.
Join us for an annual celebration of the New Year in Riverfront Park, Pottstown. The event is simple but fun!
Show up to register beginning at 9:30 AM to take the frigid plunge into the waters of the Schuylkill River. Rescue divers are on-hand to provide safety and ensure you don't float down to Philadelphia (though it may be a great option to avoid Schuylkill Expressway traffic :) ).
The bonfire lights up around 10:00 AM for spectators, and the plunge takes place promptly at 10:30 AM for registered participants. We suggest swimmers plan to use a pair of "creek shoes / old sneakers." After your planned descent into lunacy, warm up by the fire and grab a pork hotdog with sauerkraut for good luck! Proceeds from food sales benefit Pottstown Parks & Recreation.
There is no fee to take the plunge, but you must complete a waiver on-site in order to participate. Adult consent required for participants between the ages of 16 and 18 (bring your ID)
Spectators of all ages welcome. Enjoy a brisk morning in scenic Riverfront Park to connect with the community and ring in a brand-spanking-new year.
