Liberalia: A Ritual of Liberation and Responsibility

Details
The Roman festival of Liberalia held two functions. The first, more ancient and agrarian, was a joyous celebration to the ancient gods of agriculture, asking them to liberate the people in the coming new year. The second was a coming of age ritual for Roman youth, who were until then given many specific legal protections that are similar to what we could now call "childrens' rights", and were now given both more freedoms as an adult, but also expected to take on civic responsibilities.
Come to a modernized take of the ancient ritual to partake in calling forth liberation and drawing strength for responsibility. We will discuss the history of the festival and the thematic motifs which continues to resonate in today's society.
Please dress comfortable, bring a notebook and writing utensil if you enjoy taking notes or write your thoughts after ritual. Please bring a drink and snack, at least enough for the self, though folks are encouraged to bring something to share in the spirit of the ritual.
The fee for this event is $10 which can be paid cash OR on zelle/paypal at [[email protected]](mailto:[email protected]).
If anyone should find the event too financially restrictive please contact Damian 24 hours before the event.
