Whitby Walking and Social Weekend 2024

Details

This venue and the whole ambiance of Robin Hoods Bay and Whitby is so good we have to go there every year.

GREAT hostel in Robin Hoods Bay, brilliant coastal and moorland walks, steam train ride, fish and chips (and alternatives) in Whitby on Saturday night, even wild swimming (in the sea) for those who want it. This weekend could not be bettered.

After many visits to the Whitby area over the years I can't remember a single weekend that wasn't absolutely wonderful. The atmosphere in the town itself, the rugged coastline with crashing waves and the enormous variety and beauty of the North Yorkshire Moors makes this one a no brainer.

We have once again exclusive use of the highly recommended Old School House in Robin Hoods Bay for Friday and Saturday night, breakfasts and packed lunches Saturday and Sunday, included dinner on Friday night and Saturday night at one of Whitby's top fish restaurant paid individually. There is a choice of walks on Saturday and Sunday and so much more.

Friday arrival at our accommodation is from anytime after 6pm but we will lay on a bonus walk for those who can get to the Dalby Forest area for a 11am start, meeting in the car park at Thornton le Dale for 10:45am. This is also a great area for mountain biking if anyone is interested.

This is intended to be a sociable event all weekend so expect some staying up late, board games and card games and possibly even some lively music if that's what people want. If you are a sensitive sleeper ear plugs are a good idea but we turn the volume down after 10pm which is a requirement of the owners.

Help yourself breakfasts, hot drinks and packed lunches are included as well as simple bunkhouse fodder on Friday night but NOT Saturday as we are eating out in Whitby. There is an express bus to and from Whitby town but most will want to join a coastal walk in and maybe stay a little later than the last bus and get a shared taxi (about £5 pp) or you can use Gordon's very late night coastal walk back in the dark!

Accommodation is single sex bunk rooms of a variety of sizes with full bedding provided but not towels.

Saturday and Sunday we intend to have both short and long walks planned to hopefully meet everyone's requirements. Cycling is also possible as is an optional steam train ride or boat trip from Whitby harbour. These will be detailed with the event information pack a couple of weeks beforehand.

The cost will be paid as a non-returnable deposit of £20 payable when you book, to which must be added Meetup booking fees. The balance of £69 will be payable by BACS 12 weeks prior to the event being 16th August 2024
