What we’re about
Would you like to meet other people for some thoughtful discussion, for an adventure into our minds, debating philosophical issues in an environment of curiosity?
We are self supporting in that members present issues for us to debate. This means we have fresh ideas and challenges each week. Usually once a month, we examine news items and how the ancients may have seen them. We want to keep philosophy accessible, vibrant, relevant and alive.

Humour: Led by Mike
Philosophy is a way of thinking about certain subjects such as ethics, thought, existence, time, meaning and value. That 'way of thinking' involves 4 Rs: responsiveness, reflection, reason and re-evaluation. The aim is to deepen understanding. The hope is that by doing philosophy we learn to think better, to act more wisely, and thereby help to improve the quality of all our lives. You are welcome to join in our discussion or just listen. If you want to Present a topic just have a chat with Peter next time.
We need to pay for the room, photocopying etc., so please make a donation of £3 if you are unwaged, £4 if you are waged. If we 'make' any money we give it to charity, (see messages). Looking forwards to seeing you at the Lloyds 7.30pm Tuesday evening .
Our rules
Whenever we engage in an intellectual discussion, our goal ought to be to converge on the truth.
We can all promote reason by changing the mores of intellectual discussion, so people treat their beliefs as hypotheses to be tested rather than slogans to be defended. Whilst you may disagree with some ideas, we are here to have a civilised debate.
To summarise, listen and be kind to each other. - AnxietyNew Lloyds Hotel, 617 Wilbraham Road,, Chorlton-Cum-Hardy
