Come hike in western Maryland! New Germany State Park is a beautiful park filled with huge Hemlock trees! This hike is approximately 2 hours from Frederick, Maryland.

You will pass sign for Headquarters on the right. Make the next left to enter the park. Park in lot by the lake. I do not have reliable phone service in the park, but if you get turned around, try texting me at 301-693-5498.

**Bathrooms:**
There is a bathroom in the Lake House which may be available. However, you might want to stop at the gas station when you get off I-68, just in case!

**Route/Length/Terrain:**
We will be hiking several of the trails totaling around 7 miles. We will start by heading down the Turnpike Trail. We will also be hiking on the part of the Dynamite Shack Loop, the Dog Leg Trail, part of the Acorn Loop, and part of the Cabin Loop trails. There are a few climbs, but we will take breaks going up! The trails at this park are wide and easy to navigate. We will end our hike near the lake.

**Pace:**
We will take it a pace comfortable to everyone.

**Breaks:**
Breaks will be taken as needed.

**What should you wear?**
Breathable clothing, no cotton. Late fall the weather varies widely. I will give a weather update nearer to the event so you can plan your layers accordingly. Wear sturdy shoes or hiking boots. Hiking poles for stability are helpful for circulation and navigating tricky terrain.

**What should you bring?**
At least 2 - 3 liters of water, lunch/snacks, electrolytes, basic first aid supplies including sun screen and insect repellant. Have supplies to go to the bathroom in the woods. This includes toilet paper, trowel, hand sanitizer, and a ziploc to pack out paper.

**Are dogs allowed?**
Leashed canine companions are welcome. You are responsible for providing proper care and packing out any dog poo.

**Inclement weather/cancellation plan:**
If there is reason to cancel the hike, then I will let you know by the night before. However, snow/sleet can come early in the season to western Maryland, so check MeetUp before coming to the hike for any last minute info from the hike leader.

If you have taken more than two hikes with us and have not become a paid member...then please do so to continue hiking with us! We are an all volunteer organization and your membership fee help keep us on the trails.

**CONSEQUENCES OF A NO SHOW - To accommodate all, Trail Dames has a 3-strikes-you are-out policy for NO SHOWS. Please make sure your RSVP is accurate at least 24 hours prior to event start. If there is a same day emergency, reach out to the hike leaders, please.**
