We will meet at High Rock. The parking area has been enlarged. **This is not at the lot in Pen Mar Park where we met last year.**

**Route/Length/Terrain:** We will hike from High Rock View south on the Appalachian Trail to the Raven Rock Shelter. We can have lunch at the shelter and hike back to High Rock. This 4 mi+/- hike is on the AT so you can expect some rocky portions.

**Start Time: 10:00 AM -** We will leave shortly after 10:00. Text Roxanne at 240-315-4034 if you are running late. NOTE! There is very limited cell service in the area.

Pen Mar Park, 14100-14448 Pen Mar High Rock Rd,

**Leave No Trace:** We follow Leave No Trace guidelines. Be prepared to pack out all your trash (including "natural" trash like apple cores).

**Bathrooms:** There is a privy at the Raven Rock Shelter. You will need your own toilet paper, a Ziploc to pack out paper waste, and hand sanitizer.

**Pace:** We will take it at a pace comfortable to everyone and the group will stay together during the hike. Breaks will be taken as needed!

**Wear:** Breathable clothing, no cotton! Wear sturdy shoes/hiking boots. Hiking poles for stability are always a good idea! Wear layers for warmth, High Rock can be very windy and cold!

**Bring:** microspikes are recommended in case of icy conditions on the trail.

**REQUIRED:** At least 2 liters of water, lunch, trail snacks. (I will probably bring soup in a thermos for something hot.) You may also want to bring a camp stove to make either coffee, tea or hot chocolate to drink. Supplies to go to the bathroom in the woods, just in case. (This includes toilet paper, trowel, hand sanitizer, and a Ziploc bag to pack out paper). You are required to carry your own first aid kit when hiking. **Are dogs allowed?** No dogs for this one.

**Inclement weather/cancellation plan:** If there is reason to cancel the hike, then I will let you know by Saturday night. However, unexpected storms can roll in so check MeetUp before coming to the hike for any last-minute info about the hike.

**CONSEQUENCES OF A NO SHOW -** To accommodate all, Trail Dames has a 3-strikes-you are-out policy for NO SHOWS. Please make sure your RSVP is accurate at least 24 hours prior to event start. If there is a same day emergency, send me a text message!

**COVID-19 ADDENDUM**
\*National Guidelines are non-negotiable and apply to every chapter.
\*All local laws regarding social distancing, group size, mask usage and other COVID-19 issues must be followed and supersede anything that Trail Dames might impose.
\*We strongly recommend that un-vaccinated Dames continue to wear masks when social distancing is not possible.
\*Carpooling is discouraged unless all attendees are vaccinated; mask-wearing and adequate ventilation are strongly encouraged when carpooling, regardless of vaccination status.
\*There is no official limitation on group size; group size is up to the discretion of the Head Dames/Hike Leaders.
\*Post-hike gatherings and social events are no longer prohibited. Head Dames and Hike Leaders should consider the vaccination status of their group and local status when planning such activities. Ideally, such activities should take place outdoors or in well-ventilated spaces where social distancing is possible.
