What we’re about

The focus of these events and this community is to share information about the booming mass timber industry with a focus on Oregon and the U.S. West Coast. Topics include: mass timber, sustainability, prefab, robotics in construction, industrialized construction and how to build smarter, faster, better and more sustainably.

Here are 33 video presentations from 37 industry leaders on Youtube. These presentations were recorded during the Mass Timber March Madness event from March 1st-27th, 2021. This is an industry-led, informal gathering of construction industry professionals, real estate developers and clients interested in building smarter, greener, faster and better with wood. The focus is on prefab wood buildings, relatively new-to-the-US materials such as cross laminated timber (CLT), and digital fabrication of mass timber products and wood buildings in general.

Oregon produces more softwood lumber and has growing housing shortages. We need mass timber neighborhoods and even cities - the time is now.

This group is managed by Greg Howes a partner at the Mass Timber fabricator, CutMyTimber The team at CutMyTimber has completed over 25 CLT projects and hundreds of other mass timber projects. The team has completed over 1,000 projects in total in Europe, Canada and the U.S. on hundreds of mass timber buildings.
Take a look at some of our innovative buildings in this online portfolio.

We are also the only team team in the U.S. to operate multiple Hundeggers plus a Kruesi CNC line and other industrial wood robotics. Based in Oregon, we fabricate as a partner in an integrated digital wood supply chain using CLT, timber frame solid wood, custom fabricated engineered timbers and panelized roof and wall panels. We also offer prefab Passive House buildings. We collaborate with a global and expanding network of partners to help grow the wood innovation ecosystem. We collaborate with other groups like the TallWood Design Institute a joint initiative of Oregon State University Colleges of Forestry and Engineering and University of Oregon's College of Design and Oregon's Mass Timber Coalition - recent recipients of over $70 million of federal and state funding to support our state's leading mass timber industry.

Here are three great articles published in January 2020 by the Google's Sidewalk Labs team on Mass Timber.

Mass Timber neighborhoods are in development in many countries including:

Canada
Google Sidewalk's Quayside in Toronto (cancelled in 2020). In addition to using mass timber on multiple campuses, Google Sidewalk is leading this development as prototype for cities around the world.

Japan
Toyota is developing an innovation city using mass timber by designed by Danish architecture firm BIG

Sweden
Masthamnen in Stockholm by Anders Berensson Architects
