What we’re about
We require members to use a real first name and face photo on their profile. Food at our events is vegan but anyone interested in lowering their carbon footprint by eating more plant based meals, even if never planning to go fully vegan, is welcome.
Meatless Meetup is run by a group of volunteer hosts who believe it to be of critical environmental importance that we drastically reduce our meat and dairy consumption. We recommend Earthsave Canada (https://www.earthsave.ca/) for information about the plant based diet.
There are lots of opportunities to volunteer with us, from collecting cash at restaurants to helping out at potlucks. If you want to meet more people at events, get in touch.
N.B. As last minute cancellations and no shows keep wait-listers out, harm our relationship with restaurants, and can even result in our volunteer hosts having to pay for others' meals, we require you to pay for your meal via e-transfer for set menu events if you no show or cancel without adequate notice. Repeated no shows will result in removal from the group.
Meatless Meetup aims to be a transparent, safe space for all. If you experience any form of harassment, please contact a host immediately. Those causing other members to feel unwelcome or unsafe, including in the form of abusive direct messaging outside of events, may be removed from the group.

See all- Theme-Based Potluck: Ethiopian this MonthFeast & Fallow, Vancouver, BC
This is an event for people who like to cook! Everyone who signs up for the event, including guests, will bring a different homemade Ethiopian dish to share with the others.
(We also have a separate event for five people who will join the potluck, but will pay $20 toward the cost of the venue instead of bringing a dish.)
Please bring a vegan dish, with at least 8 servings (=8 big scoops). Vegan means no dairy, eggs, honey, gelatin, whey/casein, or other animal byproducts. Please bring an ingredients list for your dish.
Also, please bring a plate, cup, napkin, and cutlery for yourself, and a serving utensil for your dish. (a bag for your dirty dishes would be useful, too).
Confirmed Dish List (more to come):
Jon: Misir Wat (lentil stew) with Injera (flatbread)
Melissa: Ethiopian Split Pea Stew
Marcia: Berbere Curry
Eli: Stewed Collard Greens
Francine: Tikel Gomen (cabbage, potatoes, and carrots)
Rob: Wild Rice Pilaf
Vikram: Pomegranate Rice PilafTo ensure that we each bring a different dish, I will be contacting all attendees. If you have a favourite vegan Ethiopian recipe, we'd love to try it! If you need inspiration, you could try something from one of these websites:
