How to Solve Our Human Problems
Details
In this November series of drop-in classes, we will look at some of Buddha's core teachings around training our minds to maintain a peaceful state regardless of external conditions.
As human beings born into a world of impermanence and change, we inevitably have a mixed experience when it comes to having things turn out the way we want. From small things like a flat tire at the wrong moment; from medium things like misunderstandings between friends or family members; from large things like serious illness and death, to the truly grand scale human tragedies like war or natural disasters, human beings are beset by constant and inevitable jolts and challenges to our sense of security and well-being.
Buddha suggests that since it is not possible to control everything that can go awry in the course of our lives, a much better and attainable approach is to learn to control our minds. This is because it is the mind alone that determines whether or not we suffer and the degree to which we suffer when things do not turn out the way we wish. Events happen, but it is the mind's response to events that creates suffering or peace.
It is not necessary to be a Buddhist or experienced meditator to enjoy and benefit from these classes. Everyone is welcome.
Please join us on Thursday evenings from 6:30 to 8:00 for meditation, teachings and discussion.
