What we’re about
Welcome to our non-profit organization, the Meditation Center of Alabama. Take a break and give yourself the ultimate gift of peace and happiness. Meditation is like a delicious fruit. No matter how we try to describe it, the full benefits can only be felt through one's own practice. The journey of 1000 miles begins with the first step.
Who are we? We are committed to fostering true peace and harmony in every individual’s life, regardless of their background or beliefs. We meet 3 times a week. Founded by Sivaporn Nimityongskul, also known as Lar, the Meditation Center of AL has been open for over 14 years and has taught many people how to find peace and happiness from within.
Our mission is rooted in the belief that peace is not only attainable but essential for a sustainable global community. At our core, we believe that personal peace is the foundation for achieving world peace.
We invite you to join our inclusive community of like-minded individuals who are passionate about fostering positive change, both within themselves and in the world around them. Through a variety of offerings such as wisdom talks, self-development lectures, weekly mindfulness classes, meditation retreats, and special events featuring visiting instructors, we provide tools and support to help you uncover the keys to self-love, acceptance, and balance in your life. Operating on a donation basis, we extend our heartfelt gratitude to all our teachers, students, and volunteers who contribute to our mission of peace. Together, we are making a difference and building a more peaceful world. Join us on this transformative journey towards personal and communal harmony.
Who should join? Anyone interested in mindfulness and self development, looking to find peace and balance, or seeking a community of like-minded individuals to be supported along the practice of peace. An ideal place for beginners and experienced students looking to start or deepen their practice with knowledgeable instructors.
Even though we may know how to meditate, or be aware of the benefits, we need constant encouragement in a group of like minded individuals to stay consistent and supported.

- Teachers are ordained Buddhist monks or laypeople guiding in the Middle Way Meditation Tradition
- Classes consist of gentle stretching (15 mins), guided meditation with loving kindness (45 mins) and wisdom talk with Q&A
Beginners are encouraged to come 15 minutes early on Wednesdays for a full introduction. Experienced students are encouraged to come anytime.
Meditation instructors are certified in the Middle Way tradition with many years of experience. Each instructor volunteers their time, and has dedicated their lives to the practice of inner peace and sharing this peace with others.
What technique do we use? The Middle way meditation technique is known for its ease and simplicity. We place the mind at the center of the body, or the most comfortable position. Relaxingly and comfortably, utilizing a visualization object or mantra to capture our wandering thoughts. With practice, one achieves inner peace and stillness and gains the brightness and wisdom from within.
Where are we located? Meditation Center of Alabama 3821 Airport Blvd, Mobile AL 36608. Same shopping center as Kurabi Bubble Tea.
