Six Flags New Orleans Jazzland- Explore with Permission! Urban Exploration
Details
People all over the world have marveled at the beauty of Six Flags New Orleans as an abandoned location that was destroyed by hurricane Katrina nearly 20 years ago. Jason Lanier is the only authorized photographer to shoot and conduct tours and workshops in the park in conjunction with the E. Ross Studios School of Film and Televsion.
The park is in the process of undergoing demolition! So these workshops are being offered on a limited time basis while there is still abandoned beauty to capture. Below is the 3 day schedule related to the workshop that Jason will be personally leading. He has been shooting in the park for a dozen years and has been working at the park with permission for the last 2 years. So he has the expertise and experience to help you explore this amazing location.
All Times are Local New Orleans Time
- Day 1: Friday December 6th- Turning day to night at Six Flags- 4-7pm
Shooting Sunset at Six Flags New Orleans is a surreal experience as you stand in the middle of an abandoned amusement park and watch the sun gently stream through the cars of a ferris wheel or the creaking steel of a dormant rollercoaster.
It’s also a special experience to watch the day turn to night in a place that has been taken over by nature. you won’t want to miss this special experience.
Once the sunset fades and the park starts to turn into night, we bring out the lights to show you how to create epic art installations, which is an incredible way to bring life back into this once vibrant place.
Prepare yourself for an incredible experience on day 1 as you capture nature’s lighting and then add your own at night!
- Day 2: Saturday December 7th- Landscape photography and exploration at Six Flags- 10am-5pm
Take a grand tour through Six Flags New Orleans to capture the striking beauty of the iconic rides and buildings during the daytime.
Most urban explorers and photographers who have trespassed over the years into the park have had to do so at night for fear of security. and those who do trespass during the day have to hide for fear of getting caught.
Jason knows what it feels like to trespass into the park and also knoiws how it feels to come in with permission. and the difference between the two is unbelievable.
The feeling to be able to explore and capture the beauty of this dystopian paradise and wait for the perfect timing or lighting is incredible.
Join jason as he’ll take you to all of the accessible areas of the park (no active demolition areas) so you can experience this feeling for yourself!
The tour will also include taking attendees into the buildings that are safe to enter to capture the interiors of these buildings and rides to see what happens to an amusement park when it’s destroyed by a hurricane and left to nature for 20 years.
The day will end at some of Jason’s favorite sunset spots as we watch the sun descend through the rails of old zephyr rollercoaster.
Jason will not only lead the touring of the park but will also help all attendees with photography related questions and pointers for you to get the best shots possible in this iconic location.
- Day 3- Sunday December 8th- Sunrise at Six Flags- 5am to 8am
No tour of the park would be complete without seeing it during the beautiful morning sunrise.
Join jason in the early morning hours to capture the park as it turns from night to day. Jason will share his favorite spots to capture the sunrise and help you to get the best shots possible as you watch the morning bring this park to life.
