What we’re about
At The Loss Foundation we host online support groups and get-togethers for people who have lost a loved one to cancer - be it partner, parent, sibling, friend, family member, colleague, or someone else. Our meet ups give you the chance to meet someone like you who "gets it". We tell you the meeting point, and it's over to you to walk and talk, grab a coffee, have a bite to eat, depending on our location. Come along and join us - you can talk, you can cry, you you may make a friend for life. Anyone who has lost a loved one to cancer is welcome to join.
Please note that we are unable to respond to messages through MeetUp outside of office working hours.
If you are having any difficulty with registering for the group, please email us at [email protected] rather than through MeetUp and we will get back to you as soon as we can.
Upcoming events (4+)
See all- Walk and Talk for cancer loss, Hampshire, Havant Coastal Walk, 17.11.24The Spring Arts & Heritage Centre, Havant
On Sunday 17th November 2024 we will be hosting an informal walk and talk event around the Havant Coast.
This event is specifically for people who have lost a loved one to cancer. This event is for people aged 18 and over.
Where are we walking?
The walk will start in Havant and follow the Hayling Billy Trail south to Chichester Harbour. If the tide allows we will head along the beach to Warblington then return back. It will last approximately an hour. Can anyone take part?
Our walk is open to any adult who has had a loved one die from cancer. The aim is to give you space to meet and talk with others who have experienced a similar loss, which our users tell us they find extremely helpful. We will be limiting the number of walkers to 11 people so that we do not have too large a walking group. One of our volunteers will be hosting the event to walk and talk alongside you.
Please note that we do not allow guests unless you let us know in advance (as we are capping the number of attendees for each walk).
Pets and children are also not able to attend.
What are the timings for the day?
Walkers will be meeting at 10:00am and starting at 10:15am.
We aim to complete the walk, at approximately 11:15am.Do I need to be a professional walker?
Definitely not. The event is about being together, spending time with others who have experienced similar things, and being outdoors. It’s not about being fit or racing. How do I get involved?

- Grief Support Meeting – Words of Healing, a Grief Writing Workshop, 21.11.24Link visible for attendees
Theme: This support group is open to anyone who has lost a loved one to cancer or to coronavirus
Join our online grief support meeting on Thursday 21st November 2024 from 10:00am-12:00pm.
Welcome to our 2 hour grief support meeting online. This event will involve exploring different writing exercises to help us make room for, and process, our grief.
Writing is an extremely powerful form of processing. Whether you have taken this approach before or not, this event is open to all.
The event will be led by one of our Clinical Psychologists and take an active therapeutic approach, which means it will cover some structured content specifically around writing exercises. There will be invitations to explore some writing strategies during the workshop, and these will be private exercises. Nobody will need to share anything written, and all exercises are an invitation rather than compulsory. We will also be making room to talk as a group outside of writing.
At The Loss Foundation we are committed to providing the best support possible to those who use our services. We know it’s not a one size fits all when it comes to grief, and therefore we are always keen to learn if and how our support is beneficial. People partaking in our online workshop will be invited to complete some questionnaires before and after the event – all of which are made anonymous.
To ensure that the groups run as well as possible online we will be limiting the number of people able to join the session. We often have more people signing up for each group than there are spaces.
