Calligraphy and the Dharma by Buddhist Abbot

Calligraphy and the Dharma by Buddhist Abbot

Details

Are you interested in learning about calligraphy, meditation, and Buddhism?

Sokukoji Buddhist Community is hosting a very special event (in conjunction with Giving Tuesday) on Monday, December 2 (in Kalamazoo) and Tuesday, December 3 (in Grand Rapids).

Kyoun Sokuzan, founding Abbot and teacher of Sokukoji Buddhist Temple Monastery, will create original pieces of calligraphy centered on his teachings of meditation and the Dharma. He will offer a brief talk and respond to questions from attendees. Any artwork created will be
available for purchase/donation after the event, with all proceeds going towards the Community Mindfulness Center in Battle Creek, Michigan.

This event brings together Sokuzan's lifelong study and passion for art with his deep understanding of the Buddha's Dharma. Sokuzan is a transmitted Buddhist monk in the Soto Zen lineage under Kobun Chino Roshi. He has been studying and practicing Buddhism in both the Tibetan Kagyu and Japanese Soto Zen traditions since the 1970s. His interest in the study and practice of art began in the 1960s when he was a student at the Art Institute of Chicago.

The Sokukoji Buddhist Community would love for you to be a part of this special event. All are welcome! This event is free, donations encouraged.

We are meeting at 6 p.m. at Grand Rapids Buddhist Temple, 451 Division Ave S, Grand Rapids 49503. Please contact Mozuku at 734-0272-1392 with questions.
